The Saras Group has been active in the production of electricity from renewable sources since 2005, through its subsidiary Sardeolica Srl, which owns the Ulassai wind farm in central-eastern Sardinia, one of the windiest areas in the region, and of two wind farms located in Macchiareddu (Cagliari).
The Ulassai farm originally consisted of 57 wind turbines with a total installed capacity of 126 MW, with a production at full capacity of 250 GWh/year approximately, corresponding to the annual needs of about 85,000 people and corresponding to 162,000 tons of CO2 emissions avoided per year.
For 42 of the 48 wind turbines of the plant, the incentive period expired in 2018, whereas the incentive period for the other 6 wind turbines will last until 2025.
In June 2021, Sardeolica acquired two other wind farms located in Macchiareddu (Cagliari) for a total installed capacity of 45 MW, 50% of which benefit from a total incentive rate (GRIN) for a period of 6 years (until 2027).
With this acquisition, the total installed capacity of the Group reached 171 MW.
In addition, the construction of the 79 MW “Helianto” photovoltaic park was completed in June and therefore the total installed and operating capacity of the Renewables segment in now equal to 250 MW.
The start of the “Helianto” production allows to estimate a cumulative production for the whole of 2024 of approximately 350 GWh that will be fully sold at market prices.
Ulassai Wind Farm
In July 2018, the subsidiary Sardeolica’s project to expand the Ulassai Wind Farm (located in the municipality of Ulassai and Perdasdefogu) for an additional capacity of 30 MW was rated environmentally compatible. The work for the installation of 9 new turbines was completed on 27th September and entered into operation. In July 2019, it was obtained the permit for the reblading project of the Ulassai plant which consists of replacing all the blades, with a consequent increase in production for the same installed capacity. The works will be carried out in three lots and will be completed by the first half of 2021. In the new set up it is expected a production of about 300 GWh/year at regime.
